Khanom City
**Discovering Khanom:
A Hidden Gem in Thailand**
Nestled along the southeastern coast of Thailand lies Khanom, a tranquil town that offers a glimpse into the region’s rich historical tapestry and natural beauty. Previously known as Muang Tranom, this charming locale was founded approximately 800 years ago during the reign of King U-thong, emerging as a bustling hub for navigation and maritime trade as well as a center for Buddhist cultural arts. Over time, its name evolved from Panom and Khao Nom to its current designation — Khanom. The area transitioned from a village under the jurisdiction of Ta-saala District during the reign of King Rama the Fifth to a formally recognized district of Nakhon Sri Thammarat province in 1959. Despite its rich history, Khanom remains relatively undiscovered by foreign tourists, preserving its essence as a serene fishing village characterized by rubber and coconut plantations.
